Participants are a select group of professionally oriented, advanced students of violin, viola, cello, and piano, 18 to 29 years of age. The Taos School of Music has a non-discriminatory admissions policy, admitting talented students of any race, color, national, or ethnic origin.
Facilities and Recreation
The Hotel St. Bernard, headquarters for the Taos School of Music, is famous for its continental charm, excellent accommodations, and superb cuisine.
The students have rooms in the hotel or adjoining chalets, eat together family style in the hotel dining room and have use of the hotel facilities.
The hotel is situated at an altitude of 9,200 feet in the Village of Taos Ski Valley. The forests, streams, lakes and mountains of the surrounding Carson National Forest provide endless opportunities for hiking, climbing and fishing.
At the foot of the mountains lie the Taos Indian Pueblo (over 800 years old) and the town of Taos, with its three contrasting cultures (Indian, Spanish, and Anglo), which for over 90 years has been the home of many renowned artists and writers. Excursions are planned for area points of interest including an evening at the Santa Fe Opera.
