Covid-19 Message from our Executive Director

And plans for a Virtual 2020 Season

The COVID-19 outbreak has affected the lives and livelihoods of millions around the world on an unprecedented scale. Live performing of all kinds has ceased for the time being and it is unsure when or how it will return. And our entire Taos School of Music family has been affected: The young master’s dreams of attending Taos this summer has evaporated. Our faculty has lost income through cancelled tours and engagements, not to mention their yearly return to Taos. And our valued supporters and concertgoers have been denied the experience of hearing our young masters and faculty perform live this summer.

When our board and I met this past March, we were looking for ways to stand in support and solidarity with our entire Taos School of Music family. The decision was made to invite the 2020 cohort of young masters back for 2021 without having to re-audition. We committed to paying our faculty salaries in light of their financial situation. And we decided to embark on an ambitious project to present a Virtual Festival for the summer of 2020. From June 21 to August 9 we will present our 16 festival concerts of eight young masters, five faculty, and three seminar programs through our website and social media platforms. It was inconceivable that there be no chamber music in Taos this summer!

Plans for a Virtual 2020 Festival Season!

We will be accessing our extensive recording archives to select encore performances of our young masters for their concerts. Our faculty will be submitting recordings for their concerts and seminars as well. There may also be a live element to the concerts. I am very excited about this project and and hope that you are looking forward to experiencing it.

Over the past few months our valued donors have stood by us by continuing or increasing their support. I’m so grateful for this and feel confident that we will have the resources available to pay our faculty salaries and produce our virtual series.

While this time is unprecedented in its scope and effect on our nation and the world, the Taos School of Music is dedicated to continue our promise to you in providing quality chamber music performances. By embarking on this virtual series we will be able to expand our audience exponentially, so that more folks will experience the magic of the Taos School of Music. I am excited to see how this plays out and hope that you will too.

Please make sure to sign up for our email list for updates as planning progresses, or contact us through our email:

As we all navigate new territory through these difficult days it is my hope that this virtual festival will bring joy to your lives.

Thank you,

Elizabeth Baker
